Lived Experience - Health and Justice
NHS England/ Geese Theatre Company
The NHS commissioned me to produce a number of films about the lived experience colleagues who work in their ‘health and justice’ services. These are individuals who have personal experiences of the criminal justice system, homelessness, mental health, or addiction. They use these experiences to better engage people in the services that the NHS offer, and to inform the way these services are ran.
The first part of this commission was an extensive research project, using documentary interviewing techniques to record testimonies from these individuals. These videos could then be used internally to help the NHS improve the way it works with its lived experience colleagues. The second part of the project is the film shown here. It is a dramatisation of a lived experience journey, based on lines of dialogue extracted from the interviews. This film is used by the NHS to explain how lived experience benefits the organisation, and to help recruit people into services.
