Geese Theatre Company is a brilliant charity that uses theatre to do important work in criminal justice, health and social welfare settings. I initially started working with Geese on their ‘staging recovery’ project, they asked me to come in to facilitate a filmmaking day with the group. We worked together to generate ideas, and I helped the group film short scenes that could be shown alongside a live performance.
During the Covid pandemic I helped Geese find a way of diversifying their offering to overcome limitations on in-person workshops and performance. Using a range of filmmaking techniques we devised a way in which the performances could be hosted over the internet, with pre-recorded elements intercutting with audience feedback and live action. I have also helped Geese to produce training resources for the social welfare sector, and have worked with them in secure settings teaching filmmaking workshops to young people.
